Australia is bucket-list territory: the Great Barrier Reef, the red heart of the Outback, world-class surf beaches in Byron Bay, opera nights in Sydney, and wildlife found nowhere else on Earth. U.S. citizens need an Electronic Travel Authority (ETA) — a quick online authorization that's linked to your passport and grants multiple 3-month visits over 12 months. No stamp, no sticker, no consulate appointment. Just submit and fly.

How it works

  1. 1
Submit your passport details and travel dates through our secure form — takes about 5–10 minutes.
  2. 2
Our team reviews your documents and submits your ETA application through the Australian Department of Home Affairs authorized agent portal.
  3. 3
Most ETAs are granted within minutes. You receive a confirmation email — your ETA is electronically linked to your passport, so no printout is needed.

FAQs

What is the Australia ETA and how is it different from a visa?

The Australian Electronic Travel Authority (ETA, subclass 601) is not technically a visa — it is an electronic travel authorization linked directly to your passport number in Australia's immigration system. When you arrive at Australian customs, your passport is scanned and the ETA is automatically recognized. There is no sticker, stamp, or physical document to carry. It allows multiple entries of up to 3 months each, for up to 12 months from the grant date.

How much does the Australia ETA cost for US citizens?

The Australian government charges AUD 20 (~$13 USD) as a service charge for ETA applications submitted via the official app or authorized agents. This fee was introduced in April 2022. There is no separate visa application charge on top of this — the AUD 20 covers the full application.

Can I use the Australian ETA app myself instead of using eGovRush?

Yes — the 'Australian ETA' app is available on the iOS App Store and Google Play, and U.S. citizens can apply directly. The app scans your passport's NFC chip or MRZ barcode for instant processing. eGovRush adds value through document review, error-checking, and support if your application is flagged for manual review or if you encounter issues with the app.

What if I renew my passport after getting an ETA?

Your ETA is linked to your old passport number. If you renew or replace your passport, you must apply for a new ETA for the new passport — even if your old ETA is still within its 12-month validity period. The new ETA application is straightforward and carries the same AUD 20 service fee.

Does the Australia ETA cover work or study?

No. The ETA (subclass 601) authorizes tourism and short-term business activities only. It does not permit paid employment with an Australian employer. Short course study of up to 3 months is allowed, but longer study requires a Student visa. Digital nomads working for overseas employers are generally in a grey area — consult an Australian immigration lawyer for specific advice.
