FAQs

Do US citizens need a visa to visit Brazil?

Yes. Brazil reinstated a visa requirement for US citizens on April 10, 2024, ending a decade of visa-free travel. You must obtain an eVisa before you board your flight — entry without one will be denied.

Can I still get a visa on arrival in Brazil?

No. Brazil does not offer a visa on arrival for US citizens. The eVisa must be approved before you travel. Airlines are required to verify your visa status before boarding, so you will not be permitted to board without an approved eVisa.

How long is the Brazil eVisa valid, and how many days can I stay?

The eVisa is valid for 10 years from the date of issue and allows multiple entries. However, you may not stay more than 90 days in any 12-month rolling period. For example, if you spend 60 days in January, you can only stay 30 more days within that same 12-month window.

What is the Brazil eVisa fee?

The Brazilian government charges USD $80.90 as the official eVisa fee. On top of that, eGovRush charges a service fee based on your selected processing tier to cover application preparation, document review, submission, and status monitoring.

What's the best time to apply if I'm traveling for Carnaval?

Apply at least 3–4 weeks before Carnaval. The VFS Global portal typically processes applications in 5–10 business days, but volume spikes dramatically before Carnaval (late February). We recommend applying 4 weeks out and selecting our Fast Track or Premier tier to move to the front of our processing queue.

Can I work in Brazil on a tourist eVisa?

No. The tourist and business eVisas do not authorize employment or receiving remuneration from a Brazilian source. If you plan to work for a Brazilian company or take up residency, you must apply for the appropriate work or residency visa through the Brazilian consulate.

How far in advance should I apply for the Brazil eVisa?

We recommend applying at least 2 weeks before your departure date. The government portal processes most applications in 5–10 business days, but additional review can extend this. Applying early also gives time to correct any document issues without scrambling.
