Vietnam eVisa — 90 Days, Done Online in Minutes
From Hanoi's timeless Old Quarter and the emerald bays of Ha Long to the ancient lanterns of Hoi An and the bustling streets of Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam is one of Southeast Asia's most captivating destinations. Since 2023, U.S. citizens can visit for up to 90 days on a single eVisa — no embassy appointment, no paper forms, no invitation letter required.
How it works
- 1Submit your details and passport photo through our secure form — takes about 10 minutes.
- 2Our team reviews your application for errors and submits it to Vietnam's official eVisa portal on your behalf.
- 3The Vietnamese government processes your application — typically within 3 business days.
- 4Receive your approved eVisa by email as a PDF. Print it or save it to your phone — you'll present it at the border alongside your passport.
FAQs
Is the Vietnam eVisa really valid for the full 90 days?
Yes — since August 15, 2023, Vietnam extended the eVisa from 30 to 90 days for all eligible nationalities, including U.S. citizens. The 90-day clock starts from your designated entry date on the application, not from the date of issue. You can request single or multiple entry.
Can I extend my Vietnam eVisa once I'm in the country?
Yes, in-country visa extensions are available at provincial immigration offices (Phòng Quản lý Xuất nhập cảnh) in major cities. However, extensions are not guaranteed and require advance planning — typically at least 1–2 weeks before your current visa expires. We recommend consulting a local immigration agent for extension assistance.
Can I work in Vietnam on an eVisa?
No. The Vietnam eVisa (tourist or business) does not authorize paid employment. If you plan to work for a Vietnamese employer or earn income while in Vietnam, you must apply for a separate work permit (giấy phép lao động) and an appropriate residence status. Digital nomads working for overseas employers exist in a gray zone — consult an immigration attorney for clarity.
Do I need an invitation letter for the Vietnam eVisa?
No. One of the main advantages of the eVisa over the older 'visa on arrival' system is that no invitation letter or sponsor is required. Simply complete the online application with your passport details, travel dates, and a passport photo. A business invitation letter is only needed if you are applying for a standard business visa through a Vietnamese consulate — not for the eVisa.
What is the difference between a Vietnam eVisa and a visa on arrival?
The eVisa is fully electronic: you apply online, receive a PDF approval, and present it at the border — no separate 'approval letter' or queuing at an on-arrival counter needed. The old visa-on-arrival (VOA) process required an invitation/approval letter arranged through a third party, then a fee paid at the immigration counter on arrival. The eVisa has largely replaced VOA for U.S. citizens and is the recommended route. Both allow the same 90-day stay since 2023.
What happens if my application is rejected?
eGovRush will notify you immediately if the Vietnamese government rejects your application. Common rejection reasons include incorrect passport details, poor photo quality, or an expired passport. We will help you identify and correct the issue and resubmit at no additional service fee. Government fees are non-refundable per Vietnamese immigration policy.
